The World’s Wildest Destinations for White Water Rafting
As you and your mates roll out of the Jeep, you can already spot the bright colours of your raft shimmer through the trees. Cheering, roaring and howling, you laugh at the sight of your elated pack speeding towards it – this crazy river’s going to be your playground for the hours to come! As you buckle your life vests, strap on your helmets and pop into your trainers (yeah yeah, safety first), the collective adrenaline level rises, and before you know it, you guys are out of the water bouncing your way over turbulent rapids. This is the life, mate...
Of course, when you’re setting out on an epic white water rafting adventure, you’ll want to make sure that you’ll have something good to look at while you’re at it, too! With our annual multi-trip travel insurance the globe is your playground, so if you want to do it right, head to one of these legendary rivers for a refreshing slosh of water in your faces:
1. Colorado River, Grand Canyon (USA)
Who doesn’t know of the enormous (and remarkably photogenic) red rocks of the Grand Canyon? If you haven’t been there yet, you should go – and to truly appreciate the grandness of Mother Nature here, observing her from the water below will be one of the best ideas you’ve ever had. When you’re not busy battling through the powerful rapids without falling out of the vessel, you’ll be trying to keep your eyes from falling out of their sockets – the view from here is truly eye-popping.
Check out our USA travel insurance if you’d like to get wet and wild in the Canyons.
2. Futaleufu River, Chile
While wading through water cascading straight from the glacier-fed lakes of the Andes Mountains, you’ll notice that the surroundings here are pretty lush – and the rapids pretty rough! Real adrenaline junkies will drool at the thought of the Class IV drops, and at the end of the day you and your mates can chill in one of the permanent river camps. Hot tub, sauna, warm shower… It’s not all challenging around here!
3. North Johnstone River, Australia
If you really want to get off the beaten path, then a rafting destination that’s only accessible by helicopter is just the ticket. And hey – the North Johnstone River is one! The area here is notorious for its heavy rainfall, but the upside is that this does result in some heart-stopping Class IV and V rapids. Just make sure you plan your trip on a dry day…
4. Zambezi River, Zimbabwe
Here’s one for the real daredevils. Around the Victoria Falls (which are already reason enough for a visit), the Zambezi River is basically one big adrenaline-soaked ride of dramatic drops and imposing swells of Class IV grade. And if that’s not hair-raising enough, you can also expect to encounter crocodiles and hippopotamuses up close around here. Enjoy!
Are you guys ready? Are you psyched? Then it’s high time to get prepping and packing – don’t forget to check your passport, Visas and insurance policies before you go.
WARNING: Most annual multi-trip travel insurance policies won’t cover you for white water rafting and other hazardous activities. Check your cover before you go, or get in touch with our team at Let’s Go Insure for the best deal for the brave and daring.
